A growing collection of stunning hikes and notes about the time on trail

Take a walk with me, as I explore single and multiple day hikes Solo or with my fellow adventurers all over Switzerland and beyond and dive into some of the history of the paths and the places I visit as well as into my own thoughts that every so often pop into my head while walking.

About Me

I am Leonie and live in Switzerland; a country full of mountains to climb and stunning views to enjoy. I am a passionate hiker and love to venture out almost any chance I get. I enjoy to explore trails on my own and immerse myself in exiting, inspiring and reenergizing solo adventures. Other times I love to tackle the trails together with my husband Sam or some of my family members. I like a good challenge while hiking but suffer from a fear of heights, that started somewhere in my teens. Unfortunately I have learned, that many hikes – especially multiple day hikes – are often bound to uncomfortable narrow and exposed paths. This poses a challenge for me: Finding hikes, that give me the feeling to sit on top of the world, without having to suffer through those – what other people might call adventurous – paths, proves very difficult at times. That’s why I like to dedicate a good amount of my collection on this blog to hikes that are free of long intense height challenges.*

I love how my thoughts get to roam free in my head while I am roaming through nature so I will give space to those and share my ideas on all kinds of topics around exploring the great outdoors on foot.

Hiking is such a unique experience to everyone, in my opinion there is no wrong way to do it. Nature doesn’t judge us for how fast we walk, what gear we take with us or how many breaks we take. So this is not a “how to guide” in any way but rather a means to encourage you to dare to go out and be the confident hiker.

* What I consider difficult: my personal definition of a fear of heights

For me the most challenging thing while being high up or hiking is the aspect of being exposed; what I consider the most difficult are narrow paths, that are either on one or both sides completely exposed, so that I have the fear that if I stumble, I have no safe space to fall on and will therefore plunge far down. If a path is narrow but the slope next to it is not really steep, it doesn’t bother me or frighten me (that much). Standing close to a steep cliff or edge is equally difficult to handle. High hanging bridges (in the worst case with kind of a “see through” floor) are also a big No-no.

If I encounter any of those things on my hikes, I will mention it clearly in my posts and try to talk in detail about the paths, so that others can envision them as good as possible.
